Brocksford cricket match and reunion 2018

Graham Kirkham writes to let us know about this year’s reunion and cricket match, taking place in Ticknall, Derbyshire on the 20th of July:

I hope that 2018 is being a kind year to you & family.

I can now confirm that the Brocksford Reunion this year will take place on Friday 20th July.

The Derbyshire Academy is unable to compete against an O.B. guest XI this year, but Howard Dytham has kindly made arrangements for a match to take place against Ticknall C.C. (The Grange, Repton Road, Ticknall, DE73 7LF)

The match will start at 2:00 p.m. and Mike Hunter is recruiting a team as I type.

Maureen & I have undertaken some market research and have arranged for the Staff of Life Country Inn in Ticknall to host a lunch prior to the cricket.

I can book the eatery but not the weather and just hope that the latter is kind to us all, especially the cricketers. The lunchtime gathering will still take place no matter what the elements throw at us.

Tables are reserved from 12 noon and you are encouraged to arrive as near as you can to that time.

Please choose a table and then, once all of the places are occupied on your table, please order your food. It is not assumed that everyone in the group will order & be served at the same time, just everyone at a specific table, but there will be plenty of time to chat after everyone has eaten, particularly if the cricket match takes place. Once you have eaten your fill please settle your bill for the table, there is no collective tab.

If you wish to study what is on offer so that you plan your choices in advance of the day, please just go to the website of The Staff of Life. The inn is located at 7 High Street, Ticknall, DE73 7JH and has a good sized car park. It is only a short distance from the cricket club, which also possesses a good size car park.

Maureen & I will be there by noon and hope that you are able to arrive as soon as possible after that time, not because we’ll feel lonely, but so that tables can be occupied and food served in a steady flow, for the benefit of ourselves, the caterers and other guests.

Please convey this information to any other Old Brocksfordians and their parents, with whom you still have contact.

If you could please acknowledge this message that would be appreciated so that I know that it is not just floating in the ether, and could you please let me know if you wish to attend the lunch by the end of June at the very latest. (Graham’s email address is on the right of his website.)

If you are only able to come for the cricket then I look forward to seeing you after lunch.

We hope that everyone enjoys their day & their trip down memory lane.

Best wishes

Graham

Brocksford Reunion and cricket match 2017

It’s that time of year again! The Brocksford Reunion is at Repton on Friday the 14th of July, and Graham’s email is as follows:

I hope that 2017 is being a good year for you and that you are able to attend the Brocksford Reunion at Repton on Friday 14th. July. I can book the eatery but not the weather and just hope that the latter is kind to us all, especially the cricketers. The lunchtime gathering will still take place no matter what the elements throw at us.
There will be a large table reserved [at the Bull’s Head] for the cricketers and then tables for 4 or 6 reserved for the fans. All of the reserved tables should be to the right as you ascend the steps into the garden room and are reserved in my name, since the computer system wanted a name & email address rather than “Brocksford Reunion”. There is not a bar in the garden room and, although you can order your drinks at the table, I would suggest ordering and paying for the initial drinks at the bar and then carrying them up to the garden room.
The tables are reserved for a selection of starting times from 12:15 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. (approx) so that the kitchen is not overloaded with orders from our group alongside those of the other pub clients. The pub is very popular and it is also Speech Day at St. Wystan’s school, so it might be busier than normal.
Maureen and I have always enjoyed our meals at the Bull’s Head but have seen that the portion sizes of many of the meals are quite generous. Unless you have a large appetite, you might choose to share a meal. If you chose to share a pizza you can even choose two different fillings, one for each half of the large rectangle!
If you wish to study what is on offer so that you plan your choices in advance of the day, please just go to the website of The Bull’s Head, Repton.
Maureen & I will be there by noon and hope that you are able to arrive as soon as possible after that time, not because we’ll feel lonely, but so that tables can be occupied and food served in a steady flow, for the benefit of ourselves and other guests.
Please convey this information to any other Old Brocksfordians and their parents, with whom you still have contact.  I still haven’t succumbed to the dubious charms of Facebook & Twitter so, as a member of the younger generation, please use these platforms to promote the day & the Brocksford Reunion website.
If you could please acknowledge this email that would be appreciated so that I know that it is not just floating in the ether, and could you please let me know if you wish to attend the lunch by the end of June at the very latest.
If you are only able to come for the cricket then I look forward to seeing you after lunch.
We hope that everyone enjoys their day & their trip down memory lane.
Best wishes
Graham

So, please email Graham using brocksfordreunion@gmail.com if you wish to attend, and good luck if you’re playing in the match!

2010 Summer Cricket Matches

Graham K has passed on news to me about the 2010 summer cricket matches:

* Thursday 15th July Lullington 2 p.m. start
* Friday 16th. July Barton under Needwood, also a 2 p.m. start.

There are a number of OBs on each day but, of necessity, a fair number of guest players.

As noted last year, “The cricket is of a high standard and for many years Old Brocksfordians and other guest players have combined with members of Sidmouth Cricket Club to present a week of cricket in a very delightful setting. Any Old Brocksfordians interested in spectating or in discussing the possibility of playing are welcome to contact David Russell for further details: tel – 01531 670378.”

As for the Sidmouth cricket week, “Sidmouth is usually the August Bank Holiday week”, but we await confirmation from DWR.

UPDATE
GK emailed on the 13th of July to say this:

“I had a message from David Russell to say that if the match happened at all on Thursday 15th. July at Lullington there would be few, if any, OB s in the team. Weather permitting, the match at Barton under Needwood will go ahead on Friday 16th., & will have a decent number of OB s in the team.”

So, there we have it.
